NTPS Modules

During each collection cycle, the NTPS includes items on core topics such as teacher and principal preparation, classes taught, school characteristics, and demographics of the teacher and principal labor force. To reduce burden, each administration of the NTPS also contains rotating modules on important education topics. These modules alternate between collection years, and each of the three questionnaire types have a Set A module and a Set B module.

For example, items in the Set A module were included on the NTPS questionnaires for the 2015-16 and the 2020-21 collections. Items on the Set B modules were included on the NTPS questionnaires for the 2017-18 collection. This pattern is expected to continue to repeat for future collections. This means that the Set B module will be included on the 2023-24 NTPS questionnaires and Set A module items will be on the 2026-27 NTPS questionnaires.

Flowchart showing that Set A module is for 2015-16, 2020-21, and 2026-27 NTPS while is 2017-18 and 2023-24 NPTS

The information below explains more about the topics covered in the Core modules and both Set A and Set B rotating modules.
